[students] Cottage Pie

Okay, so this reciepe may seem obvious, however i had never made one before till friday night, i made it up as i went along and it went down a treat ^_^
1 x onion
3 x carrots
1 x cup of frozen peas
Morrisons own gravy granules (the horrible yellow packet one- decieving as it makes the best thick gravy)
400g mince
6 large potatoes
mozzarella cheese
Giant yorkshire pudding
oregano
basil
parsley

* peel and chop potatoes, Boil until very soft
* heat oil , gently cook chopped onion
* brown off mince
* slice carrot length ways in four, then chop into smaller cm2, the smaller the better
* add carrot and peas into pan
* make up a thick cup of gravy, add sprinklings of dried herbs
* mash potatoes in with a tablespoon of butter and add milk until creamy, if mix is sticky add more milk
* place mince in a casserole dish
* add mash on top
* add mozzarella (it can be any cheese, but we thought the moz really made this)
* bake in the oven until piping hot
* pop giant yorkshire pud in the oven
* serve in the yorkshire pudding and make up some more gravy (complete with herbs)

Depends on how much you need in a siting, Personally this could have served 5 people easily. i got four servings out of it, because it was so tasty i had to keep going back for more!

Enjoy ^_^ if you have any different suggestions we want to hear them!

A New Style Cheese on Toast?

Feel a bit guilty about having this as i had a 12" stuff crust pizza to myself last night.

I was at work the other day and happened to over hear a conversation between some colleagues about Cheese on Toast. Now not sure about you but i usually grill some bread, grate some cheese on it then pop back under the grill till melted. That's not how Lesley does it apparently.

She grates her cheese in a bowl, adds a bit of milk and lots of pepper and mixes. Then grills in the normal way. Milk! Don't know what a bit of milks going to do but there's only 1 way to find out. Results to follow...

OK... Finally got round to making the smoothie last night. Went to make it originally and found my Carrots all gooey :-s Bought some new ones last night though so here's a quick update on how it turned out

Really easy to make wouldn't call it a smoothie though, definitly a juice. Very orange lol and tastes delicious. I found it to be very filling so 1 portion did the trick, sometimes 1 portion just isn't enough! Been hunting and i've found a cool website with more info on the benefits of carrot juice (which include Vit D, C and Potassium) and loads of recipes. Take a look at http://www.carrotjuice.com/ and see what you think. If you try any recipes from the site or this one let me and others know what you think :-)

OK be back soon with some more antics of the kitchen vaiety, i'm off to go buy cake :-)

Hello. OK no pics as yet because my camera is broke but going to be trying a new smoothie recipe out soon. I'll let you know how we get on after we've tasted it. The recipe is fairly simple:

Carrot, Apple and Ginger Smoothie

Makes 1 serving:

3 Carrots
2 Apples
Chunk of Ginger (1-2cm)

- Scrub, top and tail the Carrots
- Put the Carrots and Apples through the juicer
- Mix the juice in a jug
- Peel and finely grate the ginger and stir into the jug
- Serve and Enjoy

We couldn't find any fresh ginger at the shops so we bought some ground ginger. Suppose it saves us grating it. Let you know what it tastes like later :-)
